A FREE internet cafe in the village of Aldbourne at the heart of the community for everyone to use.
Funding for the re-furbishment of the toilet conversion was paid for by Aldbourne Parish Council.  The room is now rented to Aldbourne Youth Council for the provision of an Internet Cafe community room.
All of the
equipment and resources available to use were funded by grants, cash donations and various other fundraising efforts by Youth Council members and adult supporters.

What is available for the general public to use and frequently asked questions.

10 computers, X box 360 and Wii, Wii fit are all free to use once you fill in a membership form.  Photocopying, printing and refreshments are for sale for which you do not need to be a member to access or use.  All profits from sales are put towards paying the rent, running costs and utilities bills for the internet cafe.  Donations are very welcome via Aldbourne Youth Council; a registered charity so please consider completing a gift aid form.  In this way, the facility remains accessible to all though it does mean management have to fundraise througout the year for the facility to remain sustainable.
The internet cafe has a designated management committee in charge of the day to day management of the internet cafe on behalf of Aldbourne Youth Council.  A core group of dedicated volunteers from all walks of life offering a range of skills and experience open the internet cafe throughout the year, offer visitors support and organise/deliver computer training courses.   Adult training courses range from basic computing to creating personal or business websites and are tailored to meet individual needs.
The cafe is located in the Square; the centre of Aldbourne and is right next door to the public toilets.  There is a post office and store near by, 2 public houses, a butchers and hairdresser plus additional village shop.
Aldbourne is approximately 8 miles from Hungerford, 9 miles from Marlborough and 12 miles from Swindon.  If the cafe is not open for the times you need it, please contact Michael Edmonds (Management Committee Chair) or send an email via this site with your suggestion for additional opening hours.
My friend doesn't know anything about computers.  Would anyone have the time to help them on a 1:1 basis?
Yes, please either telephone or pop into the CAN to arrange for support to be on hand at a time to suit or you are very welcome to come and support your friend.

Can you book the internet cafe for private use e.g. meetings, parties, interviews or general office use?
Yes, in fact quite a few village organisations have already benefitted this way and in return have given a donation towards running costs.  When the internet cafe is not booked for general public sessions, management will consider all requests for private use.  It is not normally possible to book privately when the general public sessions are planned but please discuss your needs with CAN management or via email using the contact us page on this site.
I don't want to use the computers, can I just buy a coffee or some refreshments or call in to meet a friend?
Yes, we positively encourage it!  The internet cafe is fast becoming a valued centre where you can find out information or just meet friends for a chat.  All we ask in return is for you to spread the word at what a great facility we have and that it is available for all ages and abilities to use.  Quite a few organisations have left information leaflets behind.  The Marlborough Children's centre, Wiltshire Family information service, Local Police information to name but a few.  There is a Wiltshire Police communication post box just inside the CAN for you to leave messages.
I'm not sure what to do but I would like to get some home insurance quotes online.  Can anyone help me?
Yes, volunteer staff on duty will be more than happy to help you or find out what you need to know online.  Think of it as one large digital library, an open window that makes the world seem very small indeed!  Whatever you need, if we can't help you, we will find someone who 'CAN!'
Do you have access to skype or a web cam so I can talk to my friend who lives in Canada?  Is support available?
Yes, every computer has a webcam, access to Skype and volunteers on duty are happy to support while they are on duty or they can arrange for another volunteer to help you.
I need to find somewhere to display my art work.  Could I use the internet cafe?
Yes, call in and we can discuss in more detail.  We will do our very best to meet your needs.  This is a community facility and so long as it is benefiting the community in some way;  either through a donation or what you need to use the room for, we will try to help.
Is it possible to hold our AGM at the CAN and if so what would be the charge?
Yes, so long as the CAN is big enough for your membership or audience.  All you need to do is let us know so we can book you in and advertise in advance to visitors that your AGM will be taking place.  There is no charge, though we are very grateful for any donations towards the internet cafe running costs.  Refreshments are available to purchase from the tuck shop including tea and coffee.
