Play Park Funding under threat Government Cuts
£25,000 awarded to Aldbourne Youth Council via Wiltshire Council has been frozen by central government. We await a decision as to whether the funding will be made available for the Adventure Play Park Project. Equipment and ideas are on display in the CAN ready to order if we are given the go ahead. If not, it will mean starting again with fundraising for this project. If you would like to get involved please contact any of the Adult Trustees or young people involved with the Youth Council.
Aldbourne youth council adventure play park project 2010
Having successfully secured a £25,000 play builder grant based on previous research, further consultation about Risky, challenging play opportunities are now taking place. An interactive display inside the internet cafe encourages everyone to put their suggestions forward to help create a unique and exciting adventure play park for all ages and abilities to use here in Aldbourne.
17 young people age 8-19 were involved in discussions on Tuesday 2nd February at the internet cafe about what they deemed as 'Risky' 'Adventurous' 'Challenging' and 'Exciting' outdoor play opportunities. Suggestions given were: Slides, Zip Wires, Climbing up stuff, nets, adventure course, spider web, monkey bars, trampoline in ground, climbing wall, climbing boulders, tubes, tunnels, castle, camping and fire, sandpit, tower you climb up and come down spiral slide.
Cubs and Scouts were consulted on 10th February and their ideas were;
Fire pit, Climbing wall/Frame, humungus slide, Zip Wire, crocodile pool, zip wire over a crocodile pool, torture chamber! Roundabout, death slide, tippy table, flying fox, skatepark, tunnels, obstacle course, mud bath, bumper cars, 20ft bike jump over a crocodile pool, monkey bars, spinney bars, high slide, climbing ladders, human catapult, ramp and massive jump at the BMX track.
So what next?
Here is a rough idea of the plan but as with all great plans and especially energetic and enthusiastic young people this will probably change, so watch this space!
Site visit date booked for 24th February 4pm at the BMX track. St Michaels School year 5/6 have been asked to contribute their views, Brownies and Guides are on the list to be asked for their views and in the meantime, posters are planned to spread the word at the CAN internet cafe, the bus shelter, the post office, school newsletters and word of mouth, inviting young people to come and meet Wiltshire Council Outdoor Play Advisor Ella and a Designer from Timberplay to discuss their ideas of what they see 'risky, adventurous, challenging play' to be. (All ideas collated so far will be given to the designer.)
3. The plan will be displayed in the CAN and a meeting called to finalise it.
4. Now the hard work starts.... (e.g permission from pc that the plan is acceptable, organising fundraising events if the £25,000 is not enough to cover the plan.)
